Curbless showers are the new trend today, especially in modern built houses. Whether you decide to remodel your outdated master bath or not, you need to know its pros and cons before getting bathroom renovations done once and for all.

Pros:

  • Easier to clean

Since curbless showers have a seamless design, there are no surface joints. Plus, there are fewer metal areas to clean. Soap scums, mildew and grimes that are frustrating and difficult to clean usually form on these areas.

  • Suitable for all age groups

It’s nice to have a bathroom that can accommodate the needs of everyone in your home. Installing a curbless shower is a convenient option if you’re staying with your ageing parents and grandparents, it makes getting in and out of the shower safer and easier.

  • Your bathroom will look more spacious

This is especially true for small-to-medium sized bathrooms. Without the curb, the floor extends unobstructed from wall to wall making it appear larger than it may be. Also, a curbless shower eliminates the need for a shower curtain or a shower door, thereby saving a significant amount of space.

Cons:

  • Too little privacy

Since a curbless shower is open, it doesn’t offer as much privacy as a shower enclosure. If it’s a concern to you, you can possibly minimise this by installing obscure glass, curtains or glass blocks.

  • Cold room

In a curbless shower, the air is free to circulate in the entire bathroom space since it’s designed without the need for a door. It allows heat to escape making your shower experience a cooler one. So, if you want to contain the hot air around you make sure you enclose your shower somehow.

  • More expensive

Curbless showers can be more expensive than the traditional bathroom designs. Because they are more complicated and take more time to install, the cost of materials and labour are also higher.

Planning your own master bath can be a lot of work. So consider these factors to better decide what kind of bathroom design suits for your dream home best.
