How often should I clean my bathroom?

It’s time to answer this commonly asked question – how often should you really be cleaning your bathroom?

That actually depends on how you define ‘cleaning a bathroom’. Do you mean an overall cleaning routine or just little preventive cleaning methods here and there?

Some bathroom renovation companies in Hornsby say one thing, while others say the opposite. So what’s the truth? Let’s dive in and find out the best cleaning schedule to maintain a squeaky-clean home for you and your family.

General cleaning

Generally, it’s advisable to quick-clean your bathroom at least once a week. Especially if you have more than three people using the bathroom in your household.

You can probably delay this to every other week if you have busy weekends. But make sure to clean every nook and cranny with this schedule.

Toilet

Cleaning the toilet bowl may not be the most pleasing house chore but it is necessary. And it’s important to always keep this area clean.

If you’re the only one who uses the toilet in your bathroom, you can get away with cleaning it once a week. However, a toilet should be cleaned every few days in a household with more family members.

Pro tip: If you’re not a fan of cleaning extremely dirty toilet bowls (who is, anyway?), be sure to take preventive cleaning schedules. Don’t wait for it to be too dirty before attending to it.

Sink and mirror

You may be using your bathroom sink more times than you notice. With constant use, your sink can have toothpaste residue, soap build-up, hair fall, dandruff and germs you can’t see.

Cleaning the sink and mirror aren’t as tedious as other parts of the bathroom. You can just have a soap-water spray bottle and wiping cloth nearby, so you can easily clean these areas.

Shower and tub

Hair products, bath oils, soap scum and other body dirt – these are the common causes of stain and dirt build-up on showers and tubs.

Although the shower is often exposed from these chemicals, it’s not necessary to clean it every three days – as it may wear out your shiny new tiles. Scrubbing the area during your general weekly cleaning schedule will do.

As a rule of thumb, the more people there are who use a bathroom, the more frequent you should clean it.
